After proving its credentials in a few videos, the new generation Mercedes-AMG G63 was subjected to yet another test, this time by ArabGT.
However, one doesn’t need to speak Arabic to understand what the short film shared below is all about, as it speaks the international language of speed.
So, what’s the footage about, you might ask. That would be a continuous acceleration from 0 to almost 200 km/h (0-124 mph), which reveals the time needed by the SUV to hit the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark: 4.02 seconds, or almost half a second quicker than the official time posted by Mercedes-AMG.
Now, we won’t say that all G63s are faster than marketed, because a. the test wasn’t performed in the same way as the company uses to establish official numbers and b. engine output has been known to vary from one vehicle to another, but the video does underline the fact that it’s capable of some mind-blowing performance for a vehicle that weighs as much as a small house.

Tipping the scales at 2,560 kg (5,644 lbs), the Mercedes-AMG G63 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that’s widely used throughout the performance brand’s range.
In this iteration, it develops 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, allowing the SUV to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph) with the optional AMG Driver’s Package, or 20 km/h (12 mph) less without it.
The extreme rock-climbing abilities, combined with sports car performance, classic styling and a high-tech cabin make the new Mercedes-AMG G63 one expensive ride, with the company asking at least £143,305 ($184,163/€159,322) in the United Kingdom, and £21,190 ($27,232/€23,558) more for the Edition 1.
