A police chase in Greenfield, Wisconsin resulted in the officer’s squad car flipping over and the suspect fleeing from the scene of the crash, while one of the officers suffered minor injuries during the rollover.
The incident took place last week, and began when a patrol car saw a reckless driver traveling above the speed limit on Forest Home Avenue, near Morgan Avenue, as reported by Fox6Now. When an attempt was made to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled.
Unfortunately, soon after the pursuit commenced, the officers executed an unsuccessful PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver in order to make the fleeing car turn sideways, thus causing the driver to lose control and stop. Instead of the suspect’s car, though, this resulted in the squad car rolling over. The SUV then began skidding onto its roof before coming to a halt in the middle of the road.
“We looked down the block and sure enough, we saw an SUV upside down facing us. You could see the bottom of the car and stuff like that. Flipped upside down. Tires in the air – all four. They blocked it all off. All of the cop cars were just keeping all the traffic away,” stated a witness.
The officer who was injured is said to be a 10-year veteran of the Greenfield Police Department.
Since then, Greenfield police have arrested three people in connection to the vehicle chase. Two of the suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested under suspicion of obstructing an officer, while a third individual who had an outstanding warrant was taken in under suspicion of reckless endangerment and eluding an officer, according to the Journal Sentinel.
