John Cena’s Infamous 2017 Ford GT Is Back On The Market

John Cena’s infamous 2017 Ford GT will be auctioned off this weekend during Monterey Car Week. The car has an interesting history and is thought to be the first used example offered without any legal threats from Ford.

As you probably know, the professional wrestler was sued by Ford last year after flipping his GT, despite signing a contract that he wouldn’t sell the car for two years. Cena was ultimately forced to settle with Ford, allegedly losing all the profits he made from the sale with Ford donating the funds to charity.

The car was purchased by a 78-year-old Californian farmer (no, that’s not a typo) who was an avid Ford fan with an impressive collection of F-Series pickups and a 2005 Ford GT.

Unfortunately, back issues have made the 2017 GT too difficult for the farmer to drive so he’s decided to sell it through New Autos during Monterey’s Russo and Steele auction later today.

Speaking to Jalopnik, New Autos president Bernie Knaus talked about the farmer’s decision to sell the car.

“He says, ‘Bernie, I don’t need to sell the car. But it’s getting to the point where I can’t get in the car, and it’s too difficult to drive. He has some back issues, (but) he got the dream of owning it.

“This was gong to be his last great car for himself, and he wanted it to be an American car. That was critical. And not only an American car, but he wanted it to be a Ford,” Knaus said.

The farmer purchased the car with just 30 miles (48 km) on the clock and its mileage now sits at a mere 625 miles (1005 km). Despite his age, the farmer got a lot more use out of it than Cena did.

As Cena was forced to deal with all the legal issues surrounding his sale of the car, it is no longer encumbered by paperwork restricting its sale. The new owner will therefore be able to enjoy it without the threat of being sued or chased by Ford.
