Tesla chief executive Elon Musk says the upcoming pickup truck could launch earlier than initially expected.

Despite the recent bashing he received, Musk still takes to social media and, responding to a tweet from InsideEVs asking if the vehicle’s launch could be fast-tracked, he simply responded with an ambiguous “Maybe…”

While there’s sure to be increased demand for electric pickups in the coming years, one shouldn’t get their hopes up of seeing it anytime soon. Considering Tesla’s history of launching new models later than promised, the best we can realistically hope for is to see the pickup on U.S. roads early in the next decade.

Tweeting earlier this month, Musk said that “probably my personal favorite for the next product is the pickup truck, and we are going to just do an amazing pickup truck.”

The automaker offered the world a glimpse of its upcoming pickup during last year’s launch of the Tesla Semi. Much to everyone’s surprise, the pickup will be absolutely massive, so big in fact that it will be able to fit a Ford F-250 in its bed. It’s unclear why Tesla wants to create such a massive pickup and it’s hard to imagine it attracting as many customers as it would if it came in a smaller size.

According to Musk, the finished pickup will be available in a number of configurations, including one with a Dual Motor all-wheel drive system complete with dynamic suspension that could enable a monstrous 300,000 lbs (136,077 kg) towing capacity.
