Whereas in the States, we saw Motor Trend comparing the new rear-wheel drive Subaru BRZ with the likes of the similarly priced 2013 Ford Mustang V6, over in Europe and specifically the UK, EVO magazine tried something a little bit different.

The British publication brought the BRZ to the Bedford Autodrome circuit to see how it stacks against one of the best hot hatches in Europe, the Renault Megane Coupe RS265.

The only common denominators between the two cars are the displacement of their engine and of course, their price as the Subaru BRZ starts at £24,995 (US$40,630) and the RenaultSport 265 at £24,825 (US$40,350) for the Cup edition.

The BRZ is a rear-wheel drive coupe powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four producing 200hp and 151 lb-ft for a 7.6 second 0-62mph (100km/h) time and 143mph (230km/h) top speed.

The sporty Megane is a front-wheel drive hatch boasting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four with 265hp and 266 lb-ft that hits 62mph in 6.0 seconds and tops out at 158mph (254km/h).

While the Megane has the upper hand when it comes to raw power, the BRZ wins the weight game tipping the scales at 1,202kg (2,650 pounds) versus the French model’s 1,387kg (3,058 pounds).
