Here’s a output number for you: 1,013 horsepower at the rear wheels. It’s the result of a dyno test Hennessey put the Demon HPE1200 through recently and you might want to let that sink in for a moment.
What’s the HPE1200? Well, besides the HPE1000 we already know about, the Texas-based tuner will soon roll out an even more insane package for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
As this teaser video reveals, the Demon with the HPE1200 upgrade was measured at 1,013 rear wheel horsepower and 954 rear wheel lb-ft (1,292 Nm) of torque on the Hennessey Dynojet chassis dyno. That roughly equates to around 1,200 horsepower at the crankshaft — hence the pack’s HPE1200 name .
The pack will include an upgraded supercharger, engine tuning and new headers, with other components including an NHRA-legal roll cage and a parachute. And apparently, Hennessey won’t stop there, as the company says the Demon can be further tweaked to boost output to 1,500 hp!
Now, we know what you’re thinking: where does Hennessey get its stock Demons from since the factory stopped production in late May after rolling out the final unit? We guess they must have bought a number of cars prior to FCA announcing that it will cease production. And what better (and more lucrative) way to do that than allowing the Demons to go out with a (big) bang courtesy of a mental tuning upgrade?
But enough talk; head over to the video and watch the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8’s hair-raising sound as it reaches its maximum output on the dyno. We bet it will be the most visceral sound you’ll hear all day.
