While all-electric cars such as Teslas are able to get you up to speed very quickly, they can also make it easier for irresponsible drivers to hurt either themselves or others in traffic if they’re not careful with the throttle.

According to Barrie Today, the driver of this four-door Tesla was charged with dangerous driving, which indicates that they were aware of how fast they were going, yet chose not to slow down, despite the nearby public school.

While operating beyond the legal speed limit, the vehicle jumped the steep Little Avenue railway tracks, caught some serious air, then came down hard, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the Assikinack Public School’s parking lot, hitting a tree. The incident occurred earlier this week on Tuesday evening, in Barrie, Canada.

Both the driver as well as the passenger were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital following the impact, which as far as we’re concerned is as good a post-crash scenario as we can envision, when dealing with such a high rate of speed. Also, the fact that the accident took place outside of school hours (around 8:30 PM) is definitely something to be thankful for.

As for just how fast that Tesla was going, that information hasn’t been released as of yet. Authorities did however confirm that the driver, a 46-year old Barrie local, is scheduled to appear in court on October 1st.
