Losing grip on a wet road such as this one is a nightmare scenario for any driver. Unfortunately, some people still think that if their car has all-wheel drive, it can make up for that extra layer of water that can come between the road surface and the tire itself.
Furthermore, if all four wheels lose traction simultaneously, there’s literally nothing the driver can do but hold on for dear life as the car essentially becomes a sled.
Much like this white Jeep Cherokee, which suddenly went from driving in a straight line to inadvertently taking the “scenic route”, directly into a traffic light pole.
While these types of crashes are pretty self explanatory, the story behind this particular one seems to be a little more complex. According to the person driving the dashcam vehicle, there were two other cars behind them seemingly annoyed with the fact that the cammer was going the speed limit.
“When it [the road] turned to three lanes, the closest car went in the right turning lane, leaving the SUV directly behind me. The light turned yellow and I decided to avoid braking abruptly under the conditions and just let myself coast. The SUV must have been scared I would stop and tried to overtake. He aquaplaned into our lane a few meters ahead and took out a traffic light (which almost took us out)”.
To us, those assumptions don’t really add up. It’s obvious that the Cherokee was already overtaking the cammer when the light turned yellow, so it couldn’t have been behind them at the time, with its driver fearing a sudden braking scenario – which normally is a healthy thing to fear.
In the end, this looks like a classic case of speeding during bad weather conditions.
