The BMW X7 was expected to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but now the company has confirmed the crossover will actually debut one month earlier.
In response to a question from The Drive, a BMW spokesperson said the full-size crossover will be revealed in “mid-October.” Additional information is limited, but the publication says both pictures and technical specifications will be released at this time.
While the site suggests the model could be shown at the Paris Motor Show, the timing doesn’t line up. The press preview takes place on October 2nd and 3rd and that isn’t exactly mid-October, although the show technically runs through October 14th.
Instead, it’s possible that the mid-October date only indicates when information will be published online. This could potentially mean the crossover will still have its auto show debut in Los Angeles.
Regardless, BMW has teased the 2019 X7 on multiple occasions and patent photos have already revealed the model’s final design. It will resemble a super-sized X5, but come equipped with a handful of unique styling details to distance itself from its smaller counterpart.
At the front, the crossover will have slender headlights and a more conservative bumper than X5. The model will have also longer rear doors, a flatter roof and more squared off third quarter windows. The rear end will also be unique to the range-topping crossover.
Engine options are expected to be shared with the X5 and include a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. There could also be a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 456 hp (350 kW / 462 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.
European models will likely be offered with a handful of diesel engines including a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 261 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque.
We can also expect M Performance variants including an X7 M50d with a quad-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder developing 394 hp (294 kW / 400 PS) and 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. Another possible model is the X7 M50i with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 522 hp (390 kW / 530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.
