We already have an idea of just how fast the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is but the British super saloon just added another record title to its resumé; that of the fastest production sedan around Laguna Seca.

With Randy Pobst sitting behind the wheel, the XE SV Project 8 managed to lap the Californian track in just 1:37.54, beating the Cadillac CTS-V’s lap time by a full second. Last year, the super-aggressive Jaguar managed a 7:21.23 at the Nurburging.

Built by JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations division, the XE SV Project 8 is the most extreme Jaguar yet, offering 592hp (600PS) from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8. Power goes to all four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, enabling the Project 8 to hit 60mph in 3.3 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds). Top speed is limited at 200mph.

In order to create the Project 8, the SVO division had to re-engineer and modify the chassis and body of the regular XE, including the front firewall and the rear subframe. In fact, the car you see in the pictures shares only its front doors and roof with the regular production model.

Production is strictly limited to 300 hand-built units, with prices starting from $187,500 in the US. You could argue that that’s a lot of money, but then again the XE SV Project 8 is a lot of car too.
