General Motors has issued a new recall that affects certain 2011-2012 model year Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossovers registered in 28 cold-weather states and Washington, D.C over a problem with the windshield wipers.

“Snow or ice buildup on the windshield or on the wiper restricts the movement of the wiper arm. The wiper arm may loosen and cause the wiper to become inoperative,” said GM in a posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website.

The Detroit automaker noted that the recall covers a total of 50,001 crossovers that are registered in these States:

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming and the District Of Columbia.

GM will send a letter to owners later this month to notify them about the recall.
