An eclectic group of top-tier performance cars that includes the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the Ford GT, the Mercedes-AMG GT R and the Lotus Exige Cup 430 has been brought together on Anglesey circuit in order to find out which one can post the fastest lap time.
Evo magazine gathered the four models, fitted them with the same tire (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 if you had to ask) and put Steve Sutcliffe behind the wheel and against the clock.
You would expect that the Ford GT would be a serious candidate for the win in this one and you wouldn’t be wrong; the American supercar is essentially a road-going Le Mans racer with 647hp and the most extreme aero agenda among its rivals.
Then it’s the Porsche 911 GT2 RS; a 911 with 690hp and Porsche’s full range of performance-enhancing features that make the GT2 RS one of the fastest production cars around a track, no matter the price.
Mercedes delivered one of the most exciting supercars with the AMG GT-R, showcasing just how much potential was hidden in the normal models. It might be the only one with the engine in front of the driver but that doesn’t affect its lap times.
The Lotus Exige Cup 430 is the smallest car of the group and unsurprisingly the lightest, tipping the scales at just 2,328 pounds (1,055kg). The supercharged V6 delivers 430hp but that’s enough power to place the Lotus in the same performance league with the other three.
