Volkswagen wants to increase the appeal of its Scirocco hatch in Britain by lowering the prices of the entry-level model by between £420 and £600, depending on engine, and adding new standard features and a sportier R Line trim grade to the range.

All Scirocco models, including the base variants, now come equipped with the firm’s RNS 315 touchscreen satellite navigation, as well as a multifunction steering wheel and 17-inch ‘Long Beach’ alloy wheels, while the ACC Adaptive Chassis Control is now optional.

Those that move up to the GT grade will now get standard Nappa leather upholstery along with heated front seats, the ACC system, two-zone electronic climate control, front fog lights, heat-insulating tinted glass from the B-pillars back and 18-inch ‘Interlagos’ alloy wheels.

Volkswagen has also introduced a new R Line trim that builds on the GT specification adding a more dramatic bodykit with bespoke bumpers and side skirts, plus 19-inch rims, and R Line leather sport seats, steering wheel and chrome pedals.

The refreshed Scirocco range is on sale now with on-the-road prices starting at GBP 19,650 for the base 1.4-liter TSI model.
