Carscoop reader Ken Helman was driving along the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey when he noticed a camouflaged prototype, and was quick enough to snap a few shots for us.
“Even though it is fully covered, I believe this is the new S class. This was seen on the Garden state parkway this evening following a current S Class,” Ken told us.
We believe Ken is spot on as the pictures he took of the test car match our previous scoops of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class prototypes undergoing tests across Europe.
The official presentation of the new S-Class should take place at a major international auto show, either later this year or in early 2013.
Just yesterday, Mercedes-Benz boss Dieter Zetsche confirmed that the German automaker would stretch the S-Class family to a total of six different derivatives.
These will likely include the normal and long wheelbase sedans, a coupe that will replace the current CL-Class, a super-luxurious “Pullman” variant to draw in customers from its soon-to-be phased out Maybach brand and quite possibly, two convertible versions with two and four-doors.
The next S-Class will offer customers a variety of engine options including V6, V8 and V12 petrol units along with four-cylinder and V6 diesels, plus a choice of standard and plug-in hybrid models.
Many thanks to Ken for the scoop!
