Renault’s best-selling EV is the Zoe, a subcompact model that’s roughly the same size of the Clio with around 300 km (186 miles) of range.
The zero-emission supermini will be followed by a low-cost, A-segment crossover, previewed by the K-ZE Concept in Paris, that will launch by 2022.
However, that’s not the biggest news, as Autocar reports, because the French automaker is eyeing a compact model, too. Seen as crucial to the brand’s growth plans in the Old Continent, it was confirmed by Renault’s electric sales chief, Gilles Normand.
“Zoe is B-segment, so we need to go down with A-segment – the K-ZE – and we need to go a little up. Our strategy is very clear: we want to cover the key segments in Europe [in the] A, B and C segments”, said Normand.

Rather than going for a compact hatchback, which would be an electric version of the Megane, Renault is exploring the creation of another crossover. “The worldwide industry trend is SUV, so clearly going in an SUV direction is a good trend”, added Gilles Normand.
Expected to be underpinned by the CMF-EV architecture, shared by Nissan and Mitsubishi, the yet-to-be-named model will benefit from an increased range. Renault’s target for zero-emission cars is in excess of 500 km (310 miles), and that’s in the next four years.
