Toyota Recalls The C-HR Because The Rear Wheels Could Fall Off

Toyota has issued a recall for 2019 model year C-HRs because there’s a chance their rear wheels could fall off.

According to the Japanese manufacturer, the issue stems from rear axle hub bearing bolts which may not have been properly tightened at the factory. If these bolts come loose as the car is driving, one of the rear wheels could fall off and roll down the road.

Toyota fittingly states that losing one of the rear wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

The National highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn’t received any reports of injuries or accidents caused by the bearing bolts.

Toyota will start notifying owners of affected vehicles in early November but if C-HR owners can’t wait that long, they can type in their VIN at Toyota’s recall website to see if their C-HR will need to go in for repairs.

The rear-end of each C-HR will be inspected by Toyota dealerships and if the bolts are found to be loose, the axle hub bearing assembly will be replaced.

This is the third recall announced by Toyota in the last week. The most widespread of these recalls affects 2.4 million vehicles globally, including more than 800,000 Prius and Prius v models in the U.S., involves a software bug that could cause the brand’s hybrid models to stall instead of entering a failsafe limp mode. Earlier this week, Toyota also recalled 168,000 vehicles due to issues with bad airbag control unit programming.
