The road-going Acura NSX isn’t the only version of Honda’s mid-engined supercar that’s being revised for 2019. The same stands for the racing version, which is dubbed the NSX GT3 Evo.

Extensively updated for the racing season ahead, the new NSX GT3 Evo features a redesigned bodywork designed to reduce drag for higher top speeds, improve cooling of the mechanical components underneath, and enhance balance and drivability.

The turbochargers are also new, and promise better throttle response and fuel efficiency, a crucial factor in endurance racing. The antilock brakes are also new, as are the interior electronics, all of which adds up to improved performance and lower running costs, according to the manufacturer. The changes are not unlike those recently applied by rival Audi to the R8 LMS and Lamborghini to the Huracan GT3 Evo.

“We are extremely pleased to present the specification of the 2019 NSX GT3 Evo today,” said Honda Motorsport’s general manager Masashi Yamamoto. “While the car has already won in some of the world’s most prestigious GT3 series, we believe in constantly improving our products and providing the best possible equipment and support for our customers.”

The engine and chassis for the GT3 racer are built alongside those of the street version in Ohio before being completed for competition duty by JAS Motorsport in Italy. Thus far it’s won races in the Pirelli World Challenge and in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. With the revised model and its improvements, many of which can be retrofitted to existing cars, Honda hopes to capture more podiums and wins and maybe even challenge for championship titles in racing series around the world.
