Footage of a Holden Commodore getting hit by a train surfaced recently, as the car’s driver ignored the barriers at a west Auckland crossing.

Despite the train making contact with the Commodore, the car wasn’t sufficiently damaged to stop its driver from fleeing the scene of the crash. While that person can consider themselves extremely lucky, the authorities are nevertheless looking for them.

Moments before the accident, a red sedan can also be seen crossing the tracks, which was also too close for comfort as far as we’re concerned. However, the fact that another driver ignoring an oncoming train only a few moments ago makes us wonder what, if anything, they had in mind.

According to NewsHub, not only were the barrier arms down, but the crossing lights were flashing and the bells were sounding as well.

“This was a foolish and dangerous decision and it’s incredibly lucky that no one was killed,” stated Metro service delivery group exec, Stacey Van Der Putten. “The lights were flashing and the barriers were down, these drivers made the conscious and idiotic decision to ignore them, putting themselves, the other drivers nearby and the people on the train in danger.”

Meanwhile, Tracksafe manager Megan Drayton called the Commodore driver’s actions “reckless”, also stating that their behavior “endangered the people in the car and the people in the train” and adding that these types of incidents can have devastating effects on the driver of the train.

Hopefully authorities manage to track down the two drivers quickly and reprimand them accordingly.
