Bentley customers will soon be able to enjoy uninterrupted mobile network coverage while traveling.
That’s thanks to the new Advanced Connectivity feature, described as “the world’s first super-fast, reliable and secure in-car WiFi system.” The system can turn any Bentley into a fully connected executive office on the move, the luxury car manufacturer claims.
Bentley says the system allows passengers to access several entertainment and business applications simultaneously with uninterrupted service quality — even while traveling at speeds of 110 km/h (70 mph). That includes high-definition video streaming across multiple devices.
All customers have to do is access the Bentley Advanced Connectivity system via a dedicated app on their smartphone. Users will be able to use apps such as Bentley Skype for Business as well as virtual office applications; for example, they will have the ability to access and edit files on the go, hold video conferences, and conduct multiple meetings, all in a secure virtual environment.
Bentley collaborated with Viasat for its in-car connectivity requirements. The global communications company supplied a multi-channel virtual private network (VPN) able to aggregate up to three mobile network operators on one super-fast signal.
The connectivity system is placed inside the boot lid, with the router connected to the onboard DC power supply. The WiFi router links to a broadband-connected hub located at a static site. The hub then links the Bentley system to the broadband connection at the host site.
The super-fast WiFi service, which will be able to work with faster services such as 5G and 6G (when it arrives) will be available in all Bentley models from 2019.
