There used to be three certain things in this world: death, taxes, and V8 power for the Ford GT40 and its GT road-going successors.

Unfortunately, the last part of our made-up saying doesn’t hold true anymore since Ford decided to put a twin-turbocharged V6 inside the second-generation GT supercar. But what would you say if someone replaced the original GT40’s naturally aspirated V8 with a twin-turbocharged V6?

Blasphemy? Well, we could say the folks from Superformance got the closest to doing something like that. Their Future GT Forty build unveiled at SEMA could be described as a fusion between the original GT40 race car and the latest Ford GT.

Obviously, they didn’t use an original GT40 for the project. The Future GT Forty is born from an Mk1 GT40 replica the company is so good at making, but then the build changes course. Instead of fitting a naturally aspirated V8 power plant, Superformance equipped the Future GT Forty with the same engine from the new Ford GT.

That’s a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that has undergone some changes compared to its original 647-hp state of tune. Superformance replaced the stock turbochargers with a pair of Garrett turbos with the aim of squeezing more power and torque.

The exact numbers aren’t available right now, but the company targets 700 hp and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque on E85 fuel. Considering that the Future GT Forty only weighs 2,400 pounds (1,088 kg), performance figures should be sensational. Expect a 0-60 mph sprint in under 3.5 seconds. That will make about as quick as the latest Ford GT for only a fraction of the money.

If you must know, Superformance will sell you a Future GT Forty from $179,900, which makes it a bargain compared to the GT’s price of roughly half a million dollars. Nostalgics will definitely like the Future GT Forty’s retro styling better, even though the original car didn’t have a carbon fiber aero kit like this one has.

Will they be bothered that many of the underpinnings have nothing to do with the original Ford GT40? Not really. The Future GT Forty may ride on a modern Shockwave air suspension, but two-thirds of the chassis parts are interchangeable with the Mk1 GT40.
