Aston Martin DBX SUV Will Launch In Q4 2019, Be Assembled In Brand New Plant

Starting next year, Aston Martin will challenge the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus with their first-ever SUV, the DBX.

Set to be unveiled in Q4 2019, the high-riding vehicle will be put together at the new St. Athan plant in South Wales.

The site started life as a series of hangars owned by the Ministry of Defense and was purchased by Aston Martin with the purpose of transforming it into its second production facility after the one in Gaydon. According to the automaker, the new factory will eventually become their “Home of Electrification”.

Currently home to some 100 employees, the facility’s workforce will be boosted to almost 200 when it is finished in the first quarter of 2019. The workforce will reach more than 700 employees by Q1 2020, in time for the production start of the DBX crossover.

The SUV will be joined on the assembly lines at the new plant by Aston Martin’s battery-electric cars and new models made under the Lagonda brand.

“The St. Athan facility will initially commence with the production of our first SUV, but will immediately be a global center of excellence for the production of luxury high-performance EVs, including Lagonda: the world’s first luxury electric automotive brand”, said CEO Andy Palmer.

Aston Martin has provided a glimpse into their second UK home, as the paint shop is fully installed and construction continues with the production line. When completed, the facility will also include a VIP area, offices, canteen and even a test track, among others.
