Next year, Volvo’s long-time racing partner is bringing a new marque into the World Touring Car Cup. And it’s signed the best driver it possibly could for the new program.
That, racing fans, would be Yvan Muller. With four World Touring Car Championships (and a British one) to his name, he’s the winningest driver in the history of the series. And next year, he’ll be driving the new Lynk & Co 03 TCR.
After winning his world titles with Seat and Chevy under the previous framework, Muller’s been driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR in the newly rechristened World Touring Car Cup. But for next year, he’ll be with Cyan Racing as it brings Volvo’s new offshoot brand into the series.
“I have been very happy working with Cyan Racing and to continue our journey in this new programme with Lynk & Co is ideal,” said Muller. “We will continue to push hard for the World Title in 2019.”
Driving the second car will be Swedish driver Thed Björk, who won the 2017 championship with Polestar/Cyan. He teamed with Muller this year in the Hyundai as well under the Yvan Muller Racing banner, which collaborated with Cyan as it took the year off to prepare for next year’s assault. A third driver is set to be announced at a later date.
“Yvan is a key part in our assault on the 2019 FIA WTCR and our cooperation with him and his team Yvan Muller Racing during 2018 has been invaluable,” added Cyan Racing chief Christian Dahl. “The programme has enabled us to make the necessary preparations in order to hit the ground running next year. To claim the teams’ title in 2018 fills us all with confidence for the challenges to come.”
