It’s not uncommon for a car to face a mechanical issue during a dyno tests, as its parts are stressed to their maximum. That goes double for vehicles with extremely tuned engines.
This one is more spectacular than most as the engine blows up, setting the front end of the truck on fire in spectacular fashion.
The incident occurred during a dyno contest late last month in Fredericksburg, Ohio. As per the description of the video, the engine had 288,000 miles (463,491 km) on it and it simply could not take being pushed to 1,220 HP and a staggering 2,200 lb-ft (2,982 Nm) of torque. Which, given its power and torque numbers along with the reading on the odo, is not that surprising .
So while we do like to witness fire-breathing cars, like this flame-spitting GT-R, this is definitely not one of those cases. Thankfully, nobody was standing too close to this truck when the engine decided to go out in a blaze of glory.
As for what other types of incidents tend to happen during dyno runs, well, some cars have been known to break free, while others have even ran over people’s arms – although in that case, someone was just poking around when they shouldn’t.
