Currently, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding the next Batman movie, in which Ben Affleck may or may not reprise his role as the Dark Knight.
The thing is, while the superhero has been a staple of comics, TV and films for many years and thus created a huge fan base, not every Batman-related idea is a home run.
One such example is casting George Clooney as the lead in Batman & Robin. Another, this poor excuse for a Batmobile that’s based on an old Saab. While we don’t know what model year this is, we can tell you that it’s a first-generation 9-5, which was launched back in 1997 as a sedan and a year later as a wagon. The 9-5 was based on the same GM2900 platform as the Opel Vectra and Calibra and the Saab 900, none of which would have made a good Batmobile either.
In cases such as this one, the main issue is execution. Without a considerable budget, you’re not going to do a good job building such an iconic vehicle. Sure, if money is not a problem, you can base your Batmobile on just about any platform/donor vehicle, as long as the bodywork is on point.
This… let’s call it the Saabatmobile, is a mess aesthetically, which is why people on Reddit made fun of it.
The welding is bad, that front end accessory looks ridiculous, and the rear flaps look like Mickey Mouse’s ears. As for how the rear windows just stick out like that, we can’t help but feel it’s a safety hazard.
Finally, given that the cabin has been shortened and moved behind where the B-pillar used to be, we can’t help but wonder if this thing is driveable at all.
