VW Tiguan Goes For A More Sinister Look With “Black Style” R-Line

If the R-Line design package doesn’t cut it for you anymore, you might want to take a look at the “Black Style” R-Line kit VW has released for the Tiguan.

Think of it as the exact opposite of the Tiguan Offroad. Available for Comfortline and Highline models, the new design kit brings several black design elements that highlight the compact SUV’s sporty side — in case such a thing really exists.

The black exterior parts include the air intake edges in the front R-Line bumper, 19-inch “Sebring” alloy wheels, wheel arch extensions, roof rails, mirror caps, and R-Line roof spoiler. The strip at the lower end of the doors and rear bumper is also black, as are the window frames and the grille’s middle strip.

The package includes tinted rear side windows and rear windscreen that are said to absorb up to 90 percent of light.

The only upgrade for the interior is the R-Line leather multifunction sports steering wheel. The package is compatible with four exterior colors: Mother-of-Pearl-Effect Oryx White, Pure White, Indium Grey Metallic, and Pearl-Effect Deep Black.

In Germany, the “Black Style” R-Line design package costs €3,365 (about $3,840). Customers who want to go the extra mile and make their Tiguan look more aggressive can opt for 20-inch black “Suzuka” wheels priced at €490 ($560).

Unfortunately, you can’t match the Black Style R-Line kit with a powerful engine variant. Whether you want a gasoline or diesel engine, the most powerful Tiguan you can order right now in Europe has 150 PS (148 hp). We’re guessing the lack of more powerful versions is caused by the switch to the WLTP testing procedure.
