You can hit many flying things as you’re driving: bugs, the occasional unfortunate bird, even planes. But what we haven’t seen yet is a flying trash can going kamikaze on a car.
Until now, that is. The following dashcam video recorded on Interstate 635 in Dallas, Texas proves bad luck can find you anywhere — even on the express lane. The cammer was minding her own business driving and singing along the lyrics to “Rhinestone Cowboy” when a trash can decided to spoil her fun.
Imagine what it’s like to cruise along at 75 mph (120 km/h) on the highway and see a trash can suddenly go up in the air heading for your windshield like a projectile. You don’t really have to picture that because it’s exactly what the video shows. It sure looks scary even from the comfort of your couch.

Fortunately, the can didn’t pierce through the windscreen and the broken glass was the only damage it caused to the car. But where did that trash can come from? After a careful look at the video, it seems to have taken off from the open trailer of a pickup truck. The can was probably tied down initially but the driver obviously did a poor job of it.
This goes to prove you can never be too careful when securing your cargo — especially when you’re carrying items on an open trailer or truck bed. Imagine what would have happened if a steel trash can or some other heavier item hit the car.
