Following the SUV’s public debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Ford is launching the updated Edge in Europe.

The facelifted Ford Edge claims to be the company’s “most technologically advanced SUV ever”, featuring a wide range of driver assistance systems and an updated lineup that includes the Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale trim levels.

Ford’s latest SUV model uses a biturbo 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel four-cylinder engine with 234hp (238PS) in its range-topping version, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the company’s Intelligent all-wheel drive system.

Customers will be also offered two more options in the diesel-only engine department: a base 147hp (150PS) version of the 2.0-liter EcoBlue unit that drives the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic and a 187hp (190PS) version of the same engine with a six-speed manual and all-wheel drive.

Highlights of the facelifted Ford Edge include the Active Cruise Control with the new Stop&Go feature; the system can bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than 3 seconds. The new Active Cruise Control also keeps the car centered in its lane and can operate at speeds of up to 125mph (200km/h).

Also new is the Evasive Steering Assist system, designed to operate both in city and highway driving conditions, using a radar and a camera to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead and providing steering support to the driver in order to execute a collision-avoiding manoeuvre.

Adaptive Front Lighting System, Blind Spot Information System, Glare-Free High Beam, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Lane Keeping Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Traffic Sign Recognition are just some of the new Ford Edge’s safety systems.

The interior comes with Ford’s SYNC3 infotainment system with connected features, a wireless charging pad, an optional B&O sound system with 12 speakers and a new configurable digital instrument cluster, among other.

If you want the sportiest Edge available in Europe, then the ST-Line is as good as it gets, as the fully-fledged ST model isn’t expected to reach the region. The Euro-spec Ford Edge ST-Line comes with body-colored lower door, wing, and side moldings, 20-inch alloys, partial leather seats and a sports suspension.

The new Edge Vignale continues on its role as the most luxurious of the range, featuring bespoke chrome-finished fog lamp surrounds, a signature Vignale front grille, 20-inch polished alloys, quilter leather upholstery with tuxedo-style stitching, as well as leather instrument cluster, armrest and storage console.
