With the unveiling of the 8-Series Gran Coupe, BMW will once again have a rival for the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera.
The exact reveal date is unknown, but given the pace at which prototypes have been spied testing recently, we guess we’re not that far away from its official launch.
Until then, we can feast our eyes on the prototypes that are testing at the Nurburgring.

This is the 850i xDrive Gran Coupe, and its name tells us what to expect: all-wheel drive and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine, making 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.
In its Coupe and Convertible siblings, the 850i xDrive hits the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark in 3.7 seconds (3.8 for the Convertible). Nonetheless, with the added weight that comes from the elongated wheelbase, it would make sense if the Gran Coupe would be a tad slower.
The M8 Gran Coupe, which will follow, will be offered as a more premium alternative to the latest M5. It will use the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 as the executive sedan, where it delivers as much as 625 PS (617 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque in the Competition version.
