In their chase after the booming SUV segments, Peugeot hasn’t forgotten the 508. The midsize family car is entirely new and it’s ready to bring the heat on its rivals.

Those include the likes of the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb, Mazda6 and Ford Mondeo and each of them shines in different aspects, from the sexy looks of the Mazda6 to the impressive interior space of the Superb.

The Peugeot 508’s strong point is its design, as it’s easily one of the most attractive cars in the segment. And the good looks have been carried out in the cabin, which also impresses with its build quality.

On the other hand, the 508 disappoints in other aspects, such as the slow-to-respond infotainment system, steering wheel positioning that blocks the instrument panel view, and thick A pillars and small rear window, which affect visibility.

Rear legroom is decent, but taller passengers will struggle for headroom, which simply isn’t enough due to the low-slung profile. Also, boot space cannot be compared to that of the Skoda Superb, nor the Mazda6’s, so it is found wanting in practicality, too.

Moreover, the suspension is on the firm side, so driving comfort isn’t up there with some of its rivals, and it lacks steering feel. As for the rest, you can watch What Car’s review right after the jump.
