Rising smartphone juggernaut OnePlus has teamed up with McLaren and will unveil a new product on December 11 at the McLaren Technology Center in Woking.

While no official details have been announced as to what the two brands have in store, the two have formed a “long-term technology partnership.” According to Tech Spot, it is most likely that the collaboration will initially involve the launch of a limited-edition version of the new OnePlus 6T smartphone.

This will be the first time OnePlus has partnered with a car manufacturer to work together on future products. However, Chinese smartphone giant Oppo, which has the same parent company as OnePlus, did unveil a limited-edition Lamborghini version of its flagship Find X smartphone a few months ago. That device has the fastest charging system of any smartphone, which is fitting considering Lamborghini’s love of speed.

“The OnePlus brand is synonymous with speed and power, two values that McLaren likewise strives to deliver with every car we build,” said McLaren Racing chief executive Zak Brown.

“Bringing together the inventive, pioneering spirit shared by both OnePlus and McLaren is a firm statement of intent to leverage our collective powers and break new ground for innovative ideas and technology.”

If reports of a McLaren-branded OnePlus 6T model prove accurate, the device will likely come at a significant premium over the ‘standard’ 6T that starts at a reasonable $549 in the United States. It’s possible that the smartphone could use new materials, such as carbon fiber, while also being slightly more responsive than other OnePlus devices.
