McLaren is hard at work testing a brand new Senna prototype, although this one is a little different than the actual car. For starters, it’s very small and made out of LEGO bricks, which is why it was “spotted” recently at a LEGO store in central London.
The automaker claims that its brick construction made it necessary for development to be moved from McLaren’s usual secret facility near Idiada in Spain, to a more child-friendly zone – since it was designed with “frequent reassembly by future owners in mind.”
What is it though?
It’s probably the upcoming Senna GTR, although we can’t be sure until its camouflaged bricks are replaced by regular ones, which is set to occur in January. So at least we won’t have to wait too long before its unveiling.
McLaren is also quick to point out that this isn’t their first rodeo when it comes to ditching carbon fiber construction in favor of interlocking plastic bricks. In fact, last year, we saw a 1:1 scale replica of a 720S which took no fewer than 280,000 bricks to complete and was finished with the help of visitors at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, who added more than 12,700 bricks of their own.
At the same time, there’s also a much less complex version you can buy from the LEGO store, part of the toy company’s Speed Champions range.
