SsangYong unveiled the second generation Rexton last year, but we haven’t properly been introduced to it – until now.

The following review comes from Australia’s CarsGuide and gives some really interesting feedback to consumers.

The exterior design is much nicer than its predecessor – which, given the latter’s unappealing styling, is not that surprising.

The cabin has a premium feel, and everything’s well sorted out. You’ve got your usual leather, piano black, wood-look paneling and soft-touch surfaces. And more importantly, there’s plenty of legroom behind the front seats. Also, the third row isn’t too bad, as it can fit two adults, though they won’t be comfortable there on long journeys.

Thanks to the body-on-frame construction, available all-wheel drive and several off-road gizmos, the new Rexton can take on some steep hills. The steering is said to be light yet precise, and the suspension seems to do a fairly good job at coping with just about everything.

The 3.5-ton (7.716-pound) towing capacity is definitely a plus, and so is the 7-year, unlimited-mile warranty. So, the new generation Rexton really is a much improved contender in the crowded SUV segment.

In Australia, customers can choose between three trim levels, with local pricing spanning between AUD $39,999 (USD $28,818/€25,279) and AUD $52,990 (USD $38,177/€33,489).

The new Rexton also comes with two engine options, a 221 hp (224 PS / 165 kW) 2.0-liter petrol and a 178 hp (181 PS / 133 kW) 2.2-liter diesel. The former gets an Aisin 6-speed automatic gearbox, whereas the latter is equipped with Mercedes’ 7-speed auto.
