The good times continue to roll for the Volkswagen Group’s Skoda division that has just built the 1,500,000th example of its second-generation Octavia model, with the aforementioned figure not including the production numbers of the structurally identical “MingRui” that is sold in China.
The anniversary vehicle is a white Octavia Combi ‘GreenLine’, which rolled off the assembly line at the Czech company’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav on Wednesday.
“For the past 15 years, the Octavia has been the heart of the Skoda brand,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda board member for Production and Logistics.
“The model has left an important mark on the rapid rise of our company since the nineties. In particular, the second generation built since 2004 has meant another leap forward for us. The figure of 1.5 million manufactured Octavia II expresses this success in a special way. The Octavia will continue to play a vitally important role in our model range in the future and make a central contribution to our Growth Strategy 2018,” he added.
The Octavia II was presented in 2004 and shares its platform and mechanical hardware with several other VW Group models such as the Audi A3, VW Golf and Seat Leon.
It is offered in three body styles, a five-door liftback, the Combi estate and the rugged Scout. The flagship model is the sporty Octavia RS [called vRS in Britain] available in both saloon and Combi derivatives with either a 200HP 2.0 TFSI petrol or a 170HP 2.0 TDI diesel.
