If you’re either an off-roading enthusiast, a classic car aficionado or perhaps both, then odds are the Mercedes G-Class holds a very special place in your heart.
To this day, it remains one of the most iconic automobiles ever built and Mercedes have had no problem selling them across the globe despite the fact that they were never among the most comfortable or technologically-advanced SUVs around, especially in the luxury sector.
After all, that’s what the G-Wagen is, a luxury SUV, although you sometimes wouldn’t know it just by looking at it, or while touching certain interior areas that weren’t as plush as you may have liked. However, with the all-new model, all those issues seem to have been resolved.
A clean slate
It may not look like it from afar, but Mercedes really went to town in redesigning the 2019 G-Class and turning it into something that can finally live up to its price tag, offering more than just image value. According to Doug DeMuro, the new model is everything its predecessor should have been and then some.
Build quality, comfort, ride quality, refinement, performance – all those categories have been addressed and now the G is among the world’s best all-round luxury SUVs. In fact, DeMuro went as far as to say that the new G-Wagen is better than the Range Rover, which is almost a shocking statement considering that it was only last year when the former couldn’t even hope to contend with the latter when it came to comfort, on-board tech, quality and pretty much everything else we look for in a luxury product.
