Volkswagen is making the final preparations at the Emden plant in Germany, where the facelifted Passat will be put together shortly.
The car is almost ready for its big reveal, and according to the automaker, the countdown for the market launch will begin at the end of January.
Visually, the Euro-spec 2020 Volkswagen Passat will benefit from a few minor styling changes at both ends, as previewed by the scooped prototypes. Buyers should expect revised lighting units at the front, LED taillights, updated bumpers and restyled tailpipes.
In the cabin, the brand’s challenger to the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Renault Talisman will get an updated infotainment system, as well as new online services and driving assistance gear. New trim and upholstery combos, along with a revised steering wheel, are also believed to be adopted by the upcoming Passat.

Volkswagen have concentrated their efforts under the hood of the car too. Thus, the 2020 VW Passat will get the usual internal combustion engines, but the plug-in hybrid will live on, and will continue to be offered in both the sedan and estate body styles.
It’s unknown yet whether it will still be called the Passat GTE, but the PHEV derivative will be able to travel on electric power alone for short periods of time.
By comparison, the outgoing VW Passat GTE uses a 1.4-liter petrol engine and an electric motor, combined with a 9.9 kWh Li-Ion battery pack, and has a zero-emission driving range of up to 50 km (31 miles), and in excess of 1,000 km (621 miles) on petrol.
Next year, Volkswagen expects the Passat to break the 30-million barrier, thus becoming their second best-selling model after the Golf, with approximately 35 million.
