Nissan IMS And IMQ Trademarks Hint At New Electric Vehicles

A lot has been said about the Nissan IMx Concept since it premiered in Tokyo last year, including that it might hit production in a few yearseven serve as a preview for the next-gen Qashqai (Rogue Sport).

However, it seems that Nissan’s ambitions go beyond the IMx, as they recently filed a couple of more trademark applications for use on automobiles with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), revealed AutoGuide. Thus, the Japanese automaker is looking to secure the IMS and IMQ monikers.

In Nissan slang, ‘IM’ stands for ‘Intelligent Mobility’. So, what do the ‘S’ and ‘Q’ stand for? The answer to this question might arrive as early as a few weeks, as Nissan plans to unveil a new electric vehicle concept at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14.

Meanwhile, let’s take another look at the 2017 Nissan IMx. The zero-emission crossover uses two electric motors, one on each axle, which produce a combined 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the high-capacity battery, the claimed range is over 600 km (373 miles).

Besides the impressive electric powertrain, the Nissan IMx also came with an updated variant of the brand’s ProPilot. The vehicle can drive itself if necessary, retracting the steering wheel into the dashboard and reclining the seats for a more comfortable position.
