The Corvette ZR1 has been overshadowed by the upcoming C8, but that hasn’t stopped Lego Technic from immortalizing the car in 579 individual pieces.
Set to go on sale next month, the $49.99 kit was developed in partnership with General Motors and “really captures the essence of the iconic supercar.” We’re not so sure about the latter, but Lego says the model has an authentic orange and black exterior as well as black wheels wrapped in low-profile tires. Other ZR1 styling details are present including a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a massive rear wing.
Since the car is part of the Technic lineup, it’s not surprising that buyers will also find a miniature version of the ZR1’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 755 hp (563 kW / 765 PS) and 715 lb-ft (968 Nm) of torque. While the toy engine doesn’t have that impressive power rating, it does feature moving pistons.
Designed for ages 9 and up, the Lego Corvette ZR1 measures over 11 inches (29 cm) long, 4 inches (12 cm) wide and 3 inches (8 cm) tall. The model can also be transformed into a hot rod with relative ease.
While the car isn’t exactly cheap, Autoblog notes it’s more affordable than other Lego models such as the $299.99 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and $349.99 Bugatti Chiron.
Of course, fans looking for the real thing will have to shell out at least $123,000. That’s supercar money, but the ZR1 can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.85 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 210 mph (337 km/h).
