Next week in a city far, far away. Hyundai will introduce the Cradle concept which bears a striking resemblance to the AT-AT Walker from Star Wars.

Set to be unveiled at CES, the Cradle concept is billed as a “walking car” which features wheels mounted onto robotic legs. This allows users to “drive, walk or even climb over the most treacherous terrain.”

Hyundai went on to say the Cradle is a “totally new vehicle concept” which combines robotics and electric vehicle technology. The company went on to describe the concept as the ultimate mobility vehicle which can go places no car has been before.

The automaker is keeping details under wraps, but the teaser image suggests the concept has been envisioned as a rescue vehicle which can respond to disasters such as earthquakes. These types of natural disasters usually leave roads impassable, but the Cradle could theoretically walk over debris and rubble.

The image also appears to show the legs are retractable and this means the Cradle can transition from a walking giant into a fairly traditional van. Of course, the concept isn’t too ordinary as it features a distinctive cockpit and massive doors. We can also see a protruding element above the windshield and what appears to be a roof-mounted hatch.

The Cradle will be unveiled on January 7th and Hyundai says the four-legged concept will “redefine our perception of vehicular mobility.”
