Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has released additional renderings of its Baja Boot-inspired off-roader and announced that two examples will compete in this year’s Baja 1000.

SCG’s Baja Boot takes inspiration from Steve McQueen’s Hurt Baja Boot race buggy which was purchased by Jim Glickenhaus in 2010. While SCG’s modern interpretation of the Baja Boot bears an uncanny resemblance to the original, it features a host of new technologies.

For starters, the Baja Boot is based around a bespoke all-terrain platform and will be built with a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 mated to an automatic transmission. The vehicle will also feature 20 inches of suspension travel, HVAC systems, and a drivetrain that can be switched from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive.

The niche automaker recently started construction of the first prototypes and will have the first units ready for testing in April or May.

Like the SCG 003 which has competed at Le Mans and can be easily converted for road use, the Baja Boot will compete at the Baja 1000 and be capable of driving home afterwards.

Those looking for the ultimate off-road toy will be able to purchase a two-door version of the Boot with three seats for $250,000. A four-door, five-seat derivative will also be offered for $275,000. SCG intends on racing one factory model and one customer vehicle at the event.

The Baja 1000 is one of the world’s most grueling off-road motorsport events and takes place between the Mexican cities of Ensenada and La Paz.
