Chevrolet Sonic Will Remain On Sale In The USA

Chevrolet Canada confirmed back in May of last year that the Sonic will be discontinued after the 2018MY.

With this in mind, and having read a recent report that announced the demise of the subcompact model, we got in touch with Chevy’s Canadian arm, who said that the Sonic is gone and that their main focus now is on the smaller Spark.

“We can confirm that Chevrolet Canada will end sale of the Sonic following the 2018 model year”, said Amanda Ignatius, Senior Product Communications Manager. “This change will allow Chevrolet to focus our car strategy in areas where there is more customer interest, specifically the Spark in the small car segment, where we see volume and market share opportunities moving forward.”

As we previously reported, the Chevrolet Sonic remains on sale in the United States. And GM’s rival to the likes of the Ford Fiesta will still be offered in our market for an undisclosed period of time.

“In the U.S., we remain committed to Sonic”, Katie Minter, Passenger Car and Electrification Communications representative told CarScoops. “The 2019 Chevrolet Sonic is now available for sale at U.S. dealerships nationwide.”

Undercutting the Cruze by $2,700, the Sonic can be had from $15,295. It’s $2,075 more expensive than the smaller Spark in base form and comes in three trim levels.

Previously known as the Aveo, the second-gen Sonic is almost 7 years old, and nearly 3 years have passed since the mid-cycle refresh was unveiled. As a result, talks are probably well underway at General Motors about a possible successor.

Nonetheless, we don’t know yet if the Bowtie brand will replace it with an entirely new generation model when the time comes, or if they will simply let it go and focus on high-riding vehicles instead.
