New Opel Vivaro Life Is A 9-Seat Van With An Available Electric Powertrain

Following a leak earlier today, Opel and Vauxhall have officially unveiled the all-new Vivaro Life ahead of its debut at the Brussels Motor Show on January 18th.

Looking far more stylish than its predecessor, the all-new van features a slender grille which is flanked by chiseled headlights. Moving further back, we can see pronounced wheel arches, plastic body cladding and smooth bodywork. The rear end isn’t particularly interesting, but the model has a massive tailgate that resides between 3D taillights.

The Vivaro Life will be available in two different sizes and the medium version is 194.8 inches (4.95 meters) long. The large model is more than foot longer as it measures 208.6 inches (5.30 meters). Despite the size differences, both models have a wheelbase that spans 129.1 inches (3.28 meters).

Vauxhall only released one interior image, but it shows the van will have a classy cabin with a three-spoke steering wheel, metallic trim and a 7-inch infotainment system. Other notable features include a rotary shifter and chrome accents.

A number of different seating configurations will be available as the Vivaro Life can accommodate between four and nine people. The company says the seats are easily removable and this means the van can hold up to 120 cubic feet (3,397 liters) of cargo.

Customers looking for a more upscale appearance can opt for the Lounge trim that is available exclusively on the large version of the van. It features heated leather front massaging seats and two leather rear seats which can be moved to face each other. The model also has a movable table and a 230V socket.

Since Opel and Vauxhall are now owned by Groupe PSA, the Vivaro Life rides on the EMP2 platform which underpins models such as the DS 7 Crossback and Opel Grandland X. The van will be built in the United Kingdom and the company says the decision will secure 1,250 jobs at its Luton manufacturing plant.

Vauxhall didn’t mention performance specifications, but confirmed plans to offer an electric version of the Vivaro Life in early 2021.

Despite the lack of powertrain details, Vauxhall said the van will be offered with an assortment of driver assistance systems. Among the highlights are an automatic braking system, intelligent cruise control, lane-keep assist, high-beam assist, parking sensors and a rearview camera.
