Since Nissan’s latest special edition GT-R is only available to buyers in Japan, bringing the car to the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon makes perfect sense, especially since it was built in order to honor the automaker’s business partnership with tennis star Naomi Osaka.
Osaka is currently acting as a brand ambassador for Nissan, and actually gave her input on the three exterior color schemes for this GT-R – Midnight Opal, Brilliant White and Meteor Flake.
This special edition is limited to just 50 examples, and we doubt that Nissan will have any trouble finding sufficient suitors for it, especially with this spec (LED taillights, carbon fiber rear wing, dual-tone leather interior and more).
The GT-R on display at the Makuhari Messe convention center is wearing its Midnight Opal exterior to go with a black/cream leather interior. It’s by no means a new look for the GT-R, but we suspect that was never the goal here – Midnight Opal is actually a well established paintjob for the Japanese supercar.
Looks aside, the GT-R remains one exceptionally fast machine thanks to its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 unit, six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and advanced AWD, which allow for 0-60 mph (96 km/h ) sprint in well under 3 seconds. Also, it’s no wonder Nissan chose someone like Osaka to tie into the GT-R’s image, as she is already a Grand Slam champion at just 20 years of age.
