Nissan Teases New Mystery Electric Concept: What Do You Think It Is?

The North American International Auto Show kicks off next week and Nissan has released the first teaser video of a mysterious new concept.

Set to be unveiled on January 14th, the concept promises to embody the “future of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.” That isn’t much to go on and company’s teaser video is pretty cryptic as well.

The latter seems to suggest the concept will have a distinctive grille, a rakish windscreen and a flowing roof. The clip also shows some uniquely shaped yellow components, but it’s not entirely clear what they are.

Regardless, Nissan said the “exciting” new concept will be shown will be shown alongside their latest production vehicles. This promises to give customers a “glimpse of the company’s newest and future innovations.”

While Nissan is staying tight-lipped, the company’s senior vice president of global design, Alfonso Albaisa, has previously said the concept will be an electric vehicle that “breaks new ground in design, packaging and, of course, Nissan performance.” Albaisa also stated the concept will use a new battery pack which is thinner than existing units and has a higher energy density.

Nissan has been showing a number of electric concepts over the past few years and it’s possible their latest exercise will follow in the footsteps of the IMx and IMx Kuro concepts. Both were crossovers with coupe-like greenhouses and an electric powertrain that featured two motors which produced a combined 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.

Nissan’s upmarket sibling, Infiniti, will also use the show to introduce an electric crossover concept called the QX Inspiration. The company hasn’t said much about the model, but it features a fully enclosed grille, slender headlights and a dynamic roofline.
