Hyundai has announced a government shutdown payment relief payment program designed to help those being affected by the ongoing U.S. government shutdown triggered by President Donald Trump.

The automaker’s program will see all Hyundai Capital auto loan and lease payments be extended by 30 days for those that own current Hyundai models and who are federal government employees. Hyundai owners will only benefit from the program if they financed their vehicle purchase or lease with Hyundai Motor Finance.

“We recognize that there are many federal employees who are Hyundai owners and are not receiving their normal pay check,” Hyundai chief operating officer Brian Smith said.

“Hyundai is a brand that aims to make things better for its customers and this is our way of showing customers ‘we have your back’ during this uncertain time.”

This isn’t the first time Hyundai has made such an effort to help furloughed government employees. The company announced a similar extension on auto loan and lease payments for government employees during a similar government shutdown in late September and early October 2013.

While Hyundai’s latest move will help select owners, it will also serve to benefit the carmaker itself thanks to the positive publicity the move will generate.
