The new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 could be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, but only if there’s enough demand.
Speaking to Mustang chief engineer Carl Widdman at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, Road&Track asked whether the car could be had with a stick shift in the future, and got a rather interesting answer.
“Right now, we’re DCT-only, [but] we get feedback, and we’re real tight with the Mustang crowd”, said Widdman. “We always listen to what our customers want, right?”
So, if you’d rather have your GT500 with a manual gearbox instead of its rivals, you know what to do.

In the meantime, those who cannot wait for the automaker to make up its mind whether a Mustang Shelby GT500 with three pedals is feasible, can order it with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It directs in excess of 700 horsepower to the rear wheels, produced by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine.
