TVR isn’t the only automaker to come back from the dead, as Wiesmann has struck a deal to source engines from BMW M.
Little is known about the company’s upcoming model, but Wiesmann said they have already completed its pre-development phase and signing a contract with BMW will ensure the car has a “Bavarian high-tech heart.”
There’s no word on which engine the car will use, but Wiesmann has been using BMW M engines since 1993. The company added the agreement will “secure the future of its completely new generation of sports cars.”
In a statement, Wiesmann CEO Mario Spitzner said “In the pre-development phase, which has now been concluded, we worked together extremely well and we are delighted to be able to collaborate with our reliable top partner BMW Group.”
Wiesmann will reveal additional details about the car in the future, although the company has already said the model will be built from scratch and will incorporate new materials and technology. The vehicle will be positioned as a luxury car and the company will “carefully develop the characteristic Wiesmann design.”
Wiesmann isn’t exactly a household name, yet they’ve built a number of coupes and roadsters over the years before suffering financial difficulties in 2013. The company was then acquired by Roheen and Sahir Berry three years later.
