This 1962 Corvette Restomod Will Cost You A Pretty Penny

The American classic car market is filled with icons, but few are more famous than the bow-tie brand’s Corvette. You may think that only pristine, unmolested and factory stock examples bring in the big dough, but carefully modified ones can also demand unusually high prices.

Like this restomod based on the 1962 Corvette that’s listed for 200 grand. The eBay ad specifies that the car is known as the ‘Illusions’ and was built by All American Street Rods in Gainesville, Virginia, with an estimated of 10,000 man hours and 5 years having been invested in the project.

Included in its price is the $15,000 hand-built display on which the car was featured at various automotive events.

The exterior boasts a custom-grafted 1957 Corvette front end, a PPG Silver finish and 18-inch front, 20-inch rear SLG45 wheels, while the cabin comes with a Saddle Brown leather upholstery to go with the Dakota Digital gauges, power windows, Powertrain Control Solutions paddle shifter and removable hardtop.

Beyond the customized body, the restomod Vette is powered by a GM LSX454 7.4-liter V8 crate engine, which is lighter and more compact than the original (and famous) big-block 454. Among other goodies, it has forged aluminum pistons, hydraulic roller camshaft, electronic fuel injection and ultimate stainless header. On GM’s site, it’s rated at  627hp 6,300 rpm and 586 lb-ft of peak torque at 5,100 rpm, with the seller also quoting the same max output.

There’s also a 3-inch Borla stainless exhaust, a custom engine cover with an electric opening mechanism and a Street and Performance front runner system. Power is channeled to the the rear wheels through a Chevy Performance SuperMatic 4L80E transmission.

Unfortunately, the seller doesn’t say how many miles the car has on its LSX 454 engine, but in any case its specs, as described above, are impressive.
