This is the updated 2019 Ford Ranger pickup truck for Europe, which now claims to be more fuel efficient and debuts a number of driver assistance systems to the mid-size truck segment.

The facelifted Ford Ranger has gained a new powertrain in the form of the company’s 2.0-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder diesel engine, which delivers up to 9 percent better fuel efficiency when combined with the also new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new EcoBlue engine is available with three different outputs, starting with the manual-only base version at 128hp (130PS) and 250lb-ft (340Nm) of torque. The next model in line offers 167hp (170PS) and 309lb-ft (420Nm) of torque.

Ford is also replacing the old 3.2-liter TDCi unit with the Bi-Turbo version of the EcoBlue engine that debuted in the Ranger Raptor. The range-topping …Ranger offers 210hp (213PS) and 368lb-ft (500Nm) of peak torque, an improvement of 13hp and 22lb-ft over the previous 3.2-liter version. All models come with all-wheel drive as standard.

Ford says that the new Ranger is one of the most off-road capable trucks in the segment, offering a 29-degree approach angle and 21-degree departure angle. This is combined with a class-leading 800mm wade depth and a towing capability of up to 3,500 kg (7,716lbs) and payload capacity of up to 1,252 kg (2,760lbs).

The 2019 Ford Ranger is also the first truck in its class to offer Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Speed Limiter as standard. Active Park Assist is optional while systems like Lane-Keeping Alert and Lane-Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition are still present.

The design changes over the previous model include a revised front bumper, a new grille and new “premium” color options like Diffused Silver and Blue Lightning. More expensive models also get xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

Painted surfaces inside the cabin are now given a greater shine and depth, with the luxurious Ranger Limited offering black leather seats and an exclusive set of 17-inch alloy wheels. For the first time, the 2019 Ranger will come with Ford’s KeyFree system and a starter button as well. The company’s eight-inch SYNC3 infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Wildtrak models can feature a special Saber Orange paint finish that contrasts the titanium-effect grille and outboard air-intakes. Inside the new Wildtrak, customers will be treated with dark-satin details and part-leather seats embossed with Wildtrak graphics.
