Renault has released the first official images of the fifth-gen Clio’s interior, which ups the game for the VW Polo, Ford Fiesta and other superminis out there.
The completely redesigned dashboard isn’t the only striking feature of the cockpit, which now gets a larger infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.
The 9.3-inch subtly curved, vertical display is the biggest ever to be offered on one of the brand’s models. It’s slightly turned towards the driver and comprises all the multimedia and navigation functions required.
The digital instrument cluster is also available in several sizes, ranging between 7 and 10 inches. In its top spec, the gauge cluster includes GSP navigation. Renault claims that the 9.3- and 10-inch screens are the largest offered in a B-segment car.
The steering wheel has been completely redesigned as well and comes with a more compact airbag compared to the Clio IV, thus improving visibility for the driver. It has a thumb rest, broader hoop and new back-lit controls.
Positioned higher than before to improve ergonomics, the central console is also new. It hosts a shorter gear lever, special lighting on the outer edge and wireless smartphone charging pad, and can be customized depending on the interior design scheme.
Said to provide better support because of the longer base and to free up knee space at the back thanks to the semi-soft shell, the seats are all-new.
Elsewhere, the 2020 Clio’s interior brings soft materials unique to the segment and several customization options. Clients will be able to select between eight design schemes that change the appearance of the dashboard, central console, steering wheel, arm rests and door panels. Ambient lighting with eight different colors will be available, too.
Underpinned by the CMF-B platform, the new generation Clio will welcome a hybrid powertrain further down the road. Moreover, it will be equipped with driving assistance systems “leading to autonomous driving widely available on a city car”, according to the French company.
The car will celebrate its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March.
