As if hitting a half-court shot wasn’t already difficult enough, University of Louisville fan Wayne Hanlin needed to first make a layup, a free throw, a 3-pointer and then beat a 30-second buzzer from half-court.
With a packed arena cheering him on, the man managed to make his first three shots before running to half-court. Unfortunately for him (at that moment in time), the buzzer sounded right before he launched his final attempt from Steph Curry land.
The public then immediately took to social media to voice their displeasure with the announcer initially stating that Hanlin’s half-court shot would be ruled out, which we completely understand. He made the layup, free throw, 3-pointer and half-court shot, all in a little over 30 seconds instead of just under 30 seconds – even professional basketball players sometime struggle to make these types of shots in a limited amount of time during the NBA’s All Star Weekend events.
In the end, BMW of Louisville decided to give him the car anyway, a 2018 X3 crossover, to the delight of everyone watching, especially Mr. Hanlin himself, who was quite shocked to learn that he would walk away with a new car as a “consolation prize.”
“What could have been the source of disappointment not just for Hanlin and UofL fans across the state, turned out to be a great moment as BMW of Louisville honored the spirit of the win and gifted the new BMW to Hanlin,” stated the dealership.
